With a strong sense of theatre, the group is interested in both the visual and musical aspects of medieval performance, and recreate teh music in their own compositions and arrangements using geniune medieval performance practice including countermelodies, drones, rhythm parts and creative improvisation.

Cantigas tours extensively in its home country of Australia and in other countries, performing in both city and country areas. The group also gives workshops and demonstrations to schools and colleges.
