The pianist Jan Philip Schulze studied at the Hochschule fur Musik und Theater in Munich as well as at the famous Tchaikovsky Conservatoire in Moscow with important teachers such as Klaus Schilde, Lev Naumow, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau and Helmut Deutsch. He has been awarded prestigious scholarships and prizes at international competitions in Italy, Spain and South Africa.
Jan Philip Schulze enjoys a busy career as a soloist, chamber musician, and vocal accompanist, performing at the Salzburger Festspiele, the Edinburgh Festival, the Lucerne Festival and the Munich Opera Festival, and at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Theatre du chatelet in Paris and the Smithsonian Institution in Washington.
As a much sought after vocal accompanist he works together with Jonas Kaufmann, Juliane Banse, Annette Dasch, Dietrich Henschel and Violeta Urmana. He has recorded extensively for independent recording labels such as Farao classics, Col Legno and Dabringhaus & Grimm. His discography covers a broad range from early classical chamber music with Trio Amedee, to songs by Richard Strauss and Berg with Violeta Urmana to the complete piano works of Hans Werner Henze. Jan Philip Schulze has a professorship for German Lied on the faculty of the Hochschule fur Musik Theater und Medien in Hanover.
