WILLSCHER: ORGAN SYMPHONY NO. 5
CARSON COOMAN

Andreas Willscher is one of the most important composers of organ music today; his fifth symphony in twelve movements is a Tour de Force - not of bombast, noise and celebration - but of meditative calm and peace, quietly atmospheric and extremely introspective, interspersed with the excitement of a fanfare or toccata. This style arised from the work's 'story' and title: "Of Francis' Preaching on Holy Poverty" and is a tribute to the life of St. Francis of Assisi.

The Marcussen organ at Laurenskerk, Rotterdam, is admirably suited to this spell-binding music and is brilliantly played by Carson Cooman.
